Plot Summary[]
We're introduced to our protagonist Minakami Yuki, smoking on the rooftop of a department store. There, she has a mysterious encounter with her socially awkward, shy classmate Mamiya Takuji. She's surprised he even had the courage to approach her to strike up a conversation with her. When she's lost in her thoughts, he suddenly vanishes from her sight.
Yuki heads to a CD shop in Suginomiya, to buy a new CD from her favorite band. On the way there, she runs into her childhood friends - the twins Wakatsuki Kagami and Tsukasa. Yuki jokes around with them, pretending not to know Kagami and brushing off her commitment at her part-time job.
After parting with the twins, she continues on her way to the CD shop in the residential district. But mysteriously, seemingly having taken a wrong turn, she ends up near a block of buildings she doesn't recognize despite being familiar with the area. Suddenly, she feels gravel fall in her hair. When she looks up, she's shocked to see what seems to be multiple girls in the Kita High uniform fighting on the roof, on the wrong side of the fence. She rushes to the elevators to get up there and stop them, but it doesn't work. In desperation, she runs over under the building in an attempt to catch the falling girls, despite knowing that she'd probably die instead of saving them. She hears a loud thud but, much to her surprise, what makes contact with her isn't a falling human body, but the body of a rabbit doll. Confused and intending to give the girl upstairs a piece of her mind, Yuki makes her way to the rooftop of the building.
There, she meets a girl named Takashima Zakuro, who she dubs the "mysterious girl character" in her head. Zakuro is a seemingly eccentric girl who says she was dropping the dolls off the rooftop in order to test aerodynamics.
The next day, Zakuro come and meet up with Yuki on the rooftop and sat next to her. She told her that she came here because she wanted to look at the sky. When she left, the Wakatsuki sisters came. They got into a fight and ended with both of them apologizing and Kagami ran away along with Tsukasa.
